Joseph Muchiri was one of the members of the Taita Taveta University pioneer MMPE class of 2005/2006. Muchiri has managed to become the first Kenyan to attain a Doctor of Philosophy (mining engineering). The doctor got his PhD from the University of Witwatersrand , Johannesburg, South Africa, specializing in Mine planning and optimization.
