Depression is real! Let’s dig deeper.

What comes through the mind of someone to even think of committing suicide? Is it family, their relationship, the friendships, lifestyle or just their lives in general? Am quite sure for one to think of death it must have been triggered by either something internal or external that they all think have no control over. What am I talking about? Am saying depression is quite real it is happening and everyday it is taking the lives of our loved ones without our knowledge.

How well do we know our friends, partners or family? They could be hiding something and we all would not be aware of it. Faking things has become a skill that people have learned to perfect. How many times have you met someone that looked sad or tired but just assumed they probably are from a tiring job or something bad has happened to them? Quite many I guess and we never take a chance at wanting to ask how deep that sadness goes or how much it has manifested itself in their souls. We have chosen to live in a world full of assumption and under the notion that if we are never asked why should we be the ones to care?

I came across a quote that says, “People are always so fast to ask how much money you are making, what vehicle you are driving, what place you will be visiting next holiday but forget to ask the most important question of if you are happy.” I cannot blame anyone because we are in a world of meaningless small talk just to get a favor done, a world where people care about how they can benefit from associating with you and so much more. Such is life. We can never tell who is there for the right reasons or the wrong reasons.

Let’s get back to this depression matter. A word so easy on the tongue but difficult to comprehend. What it makes people do if not talked about, the sadness and sorrow one passes through and the a thousand murderous thoughts that play in your mind when it creeps in your life. We are left wondering who even came with this term maybe that is where it all began. Trying to think what it means and they ended up living it and the chain kept growing. I bet you all have seen or heard of cases of people throwing themselves off buildings and if you haven’t heard then you’ve watched it in movies or documentaries and you get to see how it damages ones soul.

I could be depressed but not aware, you could be but denying its existence and it is not our fault that we never get to know that we are passing through it but I know that when a wave of sadness keeps you company all the time and funny, weird thoughts like dying is probably the best thing to do right now, if I die I will not have to worry about paying my rent or even putting food on the table, dying will probably give the relief that I need, nobody will miss me anyway they will be sad for just a few weeks and then they will forget about me and many thoughts that follow that trail.

I think we need to do something about depression, we need to talk about it, we need to scream so loud for anyone willing to hear, hear it, we need to stop wallowing in pain alone and look for someone to talk to them about it. Let us just do something about it. Call up your friends, meet them up, have a meaningful conversation with them, inquire how they are doing and so much more. You could be living the life but not happy. We should stop assuming that others are ok they probably aren’t but do not have anyone to talk to. Be the reason someone gets to smile.

Let’s start a conversation, lets save a life.
