What a way to still start the New Year for TAITA TAVETA COUNTY?
2016-was proclaimed and prophesized as it started that it is going to be a year of “urejesho.
This basically implies the year in which resource exploitation and management has to be fully taken back to the county level.
The event on 29th Jan held DAWSON MWANYUMBA STADIUM was a one of a kind event that marked the start of “urejesho prophecy and proved that the UREJESHO prophesies is indeed headed for fulfillment.
Over 400 guests graced the occasion. This included high profile guests from the county including H.E the Governor, both Central and County government officials. A few high schools from the county joined the public as well during the event.
The key subject of the day was THE COUNTY’S FORESTS and FORESTRY a whole. The agenda was to bring the county forestry management and other related resources under our county’s management.
Dr. Margaret Mwakima who is the Principal Secretary Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Authorities and a daughter of TAITA LAND was the brainchild of this transitional plan
During the event a Transitional Implementation Plan (TIP) signed by both H.E Eng. Governor John Mruttu and The Chairman Kenya Forest Services Board Peter Kirigua sealed this continued journey towards the realization of full devolution
The plan is to work with willing members in our communities or rather the county at large to engage in afforestation and conserve generally our ecosystem. It is my belief that the menace of global warming can be eradicated if we plant trees and conserve our forests.
Judy Wakhungu – the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Authorities promised to give 5 million seedlings to our county and do everything in her capacity to help the through the first phase of the transition process
H.E. the governor, Eng. Mruttu John promised diligence in forestry services delivery by the relevant county authorities. In his speech he for instance promised to end the human-wildlife conflict that has been rampant around the TSAVO region.
Later on the guests in attendances headed for meals at one of the county’s leading resorts TAITA ROCKS HOTEL before leaving at their own pleasure
