Following the rising cases of teen pregnancies in Taita Taveta county, veteran songbird Nyota Ndogo together with the Le-bar-arts entertainment signee Subiri Jay launched the Msichana Soma Campaign on 19th February 2021 that aims at creating awareness to the girl child on the importance of education.
This will involve visiting 10 wards from Taveta to Marungu to meet up 50 girls from each ward for the purpose of advising and talking to them as they also dissect the real issue behind these pregnancies.
This activity is set to begin in April once the schools are closed for easy access of the girls who are in boarding schools afar.
Nyota Ndogo said that, this is something she has always wanted to do but lacked the platform. But with this new opportunity, she will try as much to ensure she tries to understand the underlying issue and also help in creating awareness against dropping out of school and teen pregnancies.
Subiri jay, a first rising music talent who recently released a single dubbed soma highlighting the same issue, noted that parents might have slacked a bit on their duty of talking to their girls but he hopes collectively, they can all try driving the message home.
We all hope this issue will be behind us sooner or later.
