Sote Hub and Safaricom celebrate Teachers’ Day in Style at Voi Wildlife Lodge

Sote Hub in partnership with Safaricom celebrated Teachers’ day on the 5th of October 2019 in a forum that is the first of its kind by organizing a workshop for principals. The workshop held at the Voi wildlife lodge attracted 97 school managers from all corners of county 006. The region education leaders gathered at the lodge for the event whose theme was ICT integration in teaching and learning: 21st century skills for school managers.

The event began at 9:00am with an introduction by Emily a Safaricom representative followed by an official opening by the County Director of Education Taita Taveta County, Mr. Wanjohi. Mr. David Ogiga who is a Co-founder of Sote hub was up the podium next with a presentation from the hub that is well known for innovation and supporting youths.

Mr. Harry Mwailengo the manager of Sote hub took over with a talk on the relevant skills each school manager needs it have in a world of ICT. He introduced the use of basic skills like Microsoft word and excel. He brought to the attendees attention skills like social media marketing, blogging and use of websites, communication and collaboration tools as well as school management systems. He explained the use of tools like Google scholar, projectors, emails, education information management systems, drop box, data wrappers, and Edmodo among many others. As he mentioned them he made a point of stating how the various tools he was talking about would benefit the teachers and the school as well.

Next in line was Mr. Jules a Safaricom representative from the M-pesa office. He explained the Mpesa business payment plan which is digitized payment meant for schools by the telecommunications company. His presentation was based on how the payment plan works and the manner in which it makes it easier to pay school fees, and the benefits it will have to the school if implemented.

After the lunch break the afternoon session began with a presentation from Darius another Safaricom representative as he talked to the gathering about school internet solutions. He introduced the LTE solutions to the principals and explained why it is preferable over all others. He stated that the LTE supports all time learning. He later explained the concept of bulk SMS that is an offer the company has for its customers.

A Q&A session later ensued with the various stakeholders interacting and understanding how the other works. Later on a vote of thanks was given by the various members present, gift hampers were given to attendees by the telecommunications company and guest were allowed to leave at their own pleasure.
