Before I make it

Before I make it

I want to say this

Before the day ends

And I get crowned a success

Before blessings come my way

This is a letter to my future man.

Don’t be too arrogant to learn

Coz its lessons that build a man,

And even then you have to yearn

To learn any way, you can.

Learn from people,

Learn from events,

Learn from mistakes,

Learn from history

So you know if you want to repeat the story.

Learn from stories,

Learn from poems of the old,

Then hold on to the lessons like gold

You need a shield even more now,

For this world is colder than cold

I know by now my plastered heart is almost crippled

But I beseech you friend,

Never give up on finding genuine love

Search the world

Never let that flame inside die

Love isn’t just a word

You deserve more, find more

Those who seek, find.

Remember you only live once

I pray you be kind

Enough to forgive those who hurt thee

Love is blind,

Don’t reprimand self for that choice you made

Instead, focus on what’s ahead

The old tears drain them in a box,

Shove them in a shelf

Love’s gonna grow once more,

Just like the rose that grew from concrete

You have always been a dreamer.

I hope you still dream big

You have always been a worker,

I hope you still work on dreams.

You’ve always had a feeling heart,

I hope those little things

Still touch you to the point of tears

You’ve always had your vision clear

I hope you see through

Beyond what you’ve got,

That is how the world sees you

Remember that the masses are often wrong.
